The Indian Nursing Council is an Autonomous Body under the Government of India, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare was constituted by the Central Government under section 3(1) of the Indian Nursing Council Act, 1947 of parliament in order to establish a uniform standard of training for nurses, Midwives and health visitors. PHD in Nursing In India Supported by WHO – National Consortium for Ph.D Nursing in India.
National consortium for Ph.D in Nursing (hereafter called as Ph.D Consortium) has been constituted by Indian Nursing Council (INC) in collaboration with Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences and W.H.O., under the Faculty of Nursing to promote doctoral education in various fields of Nursing. National Consortium for Ph.D. has been constituted by Indian Nursing Council to promote research activities, in various fields of Nursing. Ph. D Consortium of Indian Nursing Council in collaboration with Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, intends to initiate Ph.D. degree programme in Nursing under the aegis of RGUHS. 6 study centres namely College of Nursing, NIMHANS, Bangalore, R.A.K. College of Nursing, New Delhi, C.M.C. College of Nursing, Vellore, C.M.C. College of Nursing, Ludhiana, Govt. College of Nursing, Thiruvanthapuram, Govt. College of Nursing, Hyderabad, has been recognized by National Consortium for Ph.D. in Nursing. These centres will be connected by Video conferencing facilities. MOU has been signed between INC, WHO and RGUHS

Indian citizens possessing foreign nursing qualification Indian citizens possessing foreign nursing qualification are examined individually & after examination the syllabi and conformation from concerned foreign authorities, the nurses are granted approval for registration in India with the recommendation of equivalence committee under Section 11(2)(a) INC Act. 1947.The foreign National possessing foreign qualification can also work in charitable institutions for a limited period with the approval of President, INC. Their transfer are evaluated/examined by the equivalence Committee Members and if they are found at par, temporary permission is granted under Section 11(2)(b) of INC Act. 1947 for employment in Charitable Institutions. Process: Transcript of General Nursing Midwifery of Equivalent courses completed from Foreign Countries. Transcript of B.Sc. The university/board from where the student has acquired the qualification shall duly fill up the transcript Performa. The duly filled transcript Performa will be placed before the equivalency committee meeting, the recommendation with regard to equivalency status there after will be informed to the concerned candidates.
